IPL has atleast reached the final stages. Premier League is done with. A small comparison between the 2.
Premier League finals - 2 English teams - Chelsea and Manchester United. Probably, among the top 5 richest clubs. Great teams in their own right and have managed to justify their fan following by reaching the finals.
IPL - Loads of money being thrown, especially by Indian standards. Maximum money spent on Mumbai and Bangalore. Now, both teams are not even in the semi-finals.
I'm not sure if the corporates involved have gained enough mileage by buying these teams at such cost. Lots of questions in my mind....
1) Is cricket (along with Bollywood) the only way to reach the Indian consumer?
2) Even if that is the case, does owning an IPL team really make a difference to the bottomline?
3) Is the big money spent on brand ambassadors (cricketers, bollywood stars, etc.) justified?
On a separate note, there was bright sunshine in Cranfield the whole of last week and i thought finally summer has arrived....But summer remains a distant dream and the last 2 days have been damp again....
